Opposing Force Coop F.A.Q.

General

Q: Does Opposing Force Coop work in both Steam and Won?
A: Yes, it does

Q: Does this work in Svencoop?
A: No, this will not work in Svencoop.

Q: What programs did you use to create this mod?
A: I use(d) Ripent for editing maps, BSP2Map to decompile maps and Valve Hammer Editor 3.4 to open decompiled maps to check for triggers etc.

Q: Where did you download the Opposing Force Sourcecode so you could activate monsters, coopplay etc..?
A: I haven't changed the sourcecode in Opposing Force at all, everything is activated by commands.

Q: Any plans to release new versions in the future?
A: I belive that I might release at least one more version in the future.

Gameplay

Q: I want less/more then 8 players at my server, what should I do?
A: Begin with entering your gearbox folder. You should see a bunch of .bat files. Right-click on desired map, eg. of1a1, and click "edit". Now just change +maxplayers 8 to desired amount, save, and run the same .bat file you just edited. Remember that max players is 16-17.

Q: How do I get Entmod to work with Opposing Force Coop?
A: You'll need to start the game different if you're gonna run entmod. After you installed Entmod, begin with right-clicking on "Opposing Force" at steam menu, choose Properties -> Set launch options. Then put in the code:
-dll addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll
(If you run Opposing Force through Won, you right-click on the deskop shortcut, choose Properties and put the code in the "Target" field.) Then you just start the game through that shortcut, and then start a new game on any map, like of1a1. You also need to write "mapcyclefile of1a1" in console after you started the game to get correct level transition.

Q: I would like to have friendly fire activated on my server, is there any way to activate it?
A: Yes, find "listenserver.cfg" at your gearbox folder and open it with notepad. Then change the command "mp_friendlyfire 0" to "mp_friendlyfire 1".

Q: Someone is blocking in a vent or simular, making every other player unable to pass.
A: The admin of the server should kick/ban the player from the server, otherwise there's no way to make him move.

Gameplay problems

Q: It seems that clients in my server hear wrong sentences from NPC's, and I also hear wrong sentences from them when I join another coop server!
A: Make sure you haven't edited your sentences.txt in your Gearbox\Sound folder.

Q: The game sometimes makes a CTD (Crash-To-Deskop) without leaving any error message!
A: This is a common problem which I don't know any solution to. However, it should be less crashes if you lower your fps (if you run a listen server). You can do this by typing "fps_max value" in the console. Default is 72, so type any value like 60. Also, try not to overcharge the server (like much players shoots much explosives at the same time as monsters shoots).

Q: When I come to a certain map at my server, all players gets disconnected, leaving a message saying "Map differs from server".
A: Make sure you haven't edited the map on any way. If you're sure that you haven't done that, your map is probably broken. Fix it by reinstalling Opposing Force Coop.

Q: I get a message saying "Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket" when I try to create/join a server!
A: If this happens, restart your computer and then try create/join again. If it still doesn't work, you may have a router you'll need to port forward, read next question for info how to port forward your router.

Q: When I start server, it disconnects about a minute later and leaves this message in the console: "Client timed out while answering challenge. ---> Please make sure that you have opened the appropriate ports on any firewall you are connected behind"
A: Your probably running the server behind a router. To fix this, you'll need to open ports, do this by visiting http://portforward.com/

Q: After someone finished a level, it takes minutes to load next! Why?
A: At least one player at the server must press "fire" button to load next, otherwise it takes a few minutes before the server automatically change level.
